I believe in the power
of talking or other means of self-expression to help create
such change in our lives. Through self-expression, within the
counselling relationship,
we are able to access feelings that
are often kept hidden by emotions such as shame,
embarrassment,
fear or anger. Having found them we are then able to begin to
talk
about these feelings and, if we want to, begin to make a
change. Some people do not find it
easy to talk about difficult
things; in this case you may prefer to try other means of
expression, such as drawing or using clay or you could use
pictures or other objects which may help you to show your
feelings without using words.
I have on occasion been asked: “Am I wasting your time?” or “Is
this important enough?”
I believe that if it troubles you, nothing is too unimportant to
talk about. It is difficult for many people to walk into a
counselling room and talk to ‘a stranger’, or even to look up a
website, and if you have done so, then your situation is
important to me.
I believe strongly that counselling should be available to
everyone regardless of race, creed, situation in life or ability
to pay. Therefore I have a sliding scale of fees that I
negotiate with my clients during the first session, if you would
like to know more, click on my page ‘How I work’. I also work as
a volunteer counsellor at the
Hounslow Youth
Counselling Service (HYCS).
I am a MBACP Accred. (Accredited Member of British Association
for Counselling and Psychology), BAPCA (British Association for
the Person-Centred Approach), and the Metanoia Institute. I
support and abide by the
Ethical Framework of the BACP.
On a different level, my hope is that my work will touch lives
by supporting people as they find ways to be that are more
true to themselves. I hope that as lives improve and cycles of
unhappiness are broken, ripples will move out amongst families
and friends and others will also find a way of being more true
to themselves. Little by little and person by person this world
will become a better place.
