Supervision is a time for you to look at your work with others. The areas of discussion may be general or specific to one client or patient; issues such as “am I holding back on the service I offer to everyone or to one client, and if so why and how?” or “this client brings up unusual thoughts or feelings in me” or “I love my work and I’m feeling limited by….” These are only a few examples; there are of course many more issues that supervisees want to work with. What is the purpose of Supervision? Supervision is there to support your work as a counsellor or other practitioner and to facilitate your development and help you improve your work. All counsellors and supervisors working to the Ethical Framework of the BACP must work with a supervisor. (www.bacp.co.uk/ethical_framework ) Other professionals working with people may need or want to have supervision. How often and for how long are supervision sessions? The BACP requires members to see a supervisor for a minimum of 1½ hours per month in which clients are seen. Other professional institutions may have different requirements for their members: or you may not be a member of an institution and are looking for some support for your work, in which case we can decide between us how much time you would like. How much does supervision cost? My first session is an opportunity to meet and discuss what you would like from supervision, and is therefore free so you can make a decision about working with me without financial commitment. My fee for supervision is £40 per hour. However, I am aware that some counsellors and other professionals work in the volunteer sector; others work in private practice with different sized practices; still others are students or may be working with other supervisors for different parts of their practice. I therefore accept reduced fees from those who are unable to pay my full fee; we will negotiate this during the initial meeting. If you would like more information or would like to arrange an initial session, please contact me. |
